A man was killed while a woman was injured after the four-wheel-drive vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a drain at Kampung Paris 2 today.
The accident occurred at about 1.06pm, leaving the 56-year-old driver dead at the scene, while his 53-year-old passenger sustained injuries.
Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station chief Suriyadi Darwis said his team received an emergency call via MERS999 before deploying five firefighters and a CFRT vehicle to the location, which is about 50 kilometres from the station.
Upon arrival at 1.51pm, firefighters found that the vehicle had reportedly lost control before ending up in a roadside drain.
He said both occupants were successfully removed from the vehicle by the rescue team.
The driver was later confirmed dead by medical personnel from the Ministry of Health.
The injured female passenger was taken to Lahad Datu Hospital by family members for further treatment.
The victim’s body was handed over to police for further action, and the operation concluded at 3.15pm after the area was declared safe.
