Two people were burnt to death while another survived after a car they were travelling in skidded and caught fire along the Duta–Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE) at the Jalan Kuching exit on Saturday.
The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department said they received an emergency call at about 5.20am before firefighters from Jinjang and Sri Hartamas stations were rushed to the scene.
Operations commander Mohd Fadzlil Jamaludin said three victims were found in the vehicle upon arrival, with two already burnt beyond recognition after being trapped inside the wreckage.
A third occupant was successfully rescued from the burning vehicle, he said.
Firefighters managed to fully extinguish the blaze, which destroyed the car completely, with damage reported at 100 per cent.
Authorities said the cause of the crash and fire is still under investigation by the Fire and Rescue Department’s Forensic Unit together with the Royal Malaysia Police.
The survivor has been handed over to the Health Ministry for further treatment and observation.
