A 40-year-old father has been detained in Melaka over allegations that he sexually and physically abused his two young children over a period of four months.
Melaka police chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the suspect, from Sungai Udang, was arrested after a police report was lodged at about 4pm on Tuesday over the alleged abuse of his seven-year-old son and three-year-old daughter.
He said a team from the Melaka police headquarters arrested the suspect at about 11.35pm the same day.
The two children are believed to have been subjected to the alleged abuse between May and August. Both victims have since been referred for medical examinations as part of the investigation.
Police have yet to confirm reports on whether the suspect is a former military personnel.
Dzulkhairi said the suspect has been remanded until Sunday to facilitate investigations under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792) and Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 (Act 611).
Initial checks found that the suspect tested negative for drugs and had no previous criminal record.
The investigation remains ongoing, with police expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations and gather further evidence before any further action is taken.
