Fire Department May Introduce EV Charging Safety Guidelines For Private Homes

Date:

The Fire and Rescue Department may introduce specific safety guidelines for electric vehicle (EV) charging at private homes following a house fire in Cheras on Sunday.

Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohammad said there are currently no specific guidelines governing the installation and use of EV charging facilities at private residences.

He explained that existing safety guidelines mainly cover EV charging installations at commercial premises.

The department is now looking into whether additional guidelines are needed for homeowners to ensure EV charging equipment is installed and operated safely, particularly as the number of electric vehicles continues to grow.
