A 52-year-old man who became stranded on Pulau Perjudi after his boat broke down was safely rescued by firefighters early this morning.
The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 4.14am from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Maritime Malaysia) Johor requesting assistance in the rescue operation.
Teluk Kemang Fire and Rescue Station operation commander Senior Fire Officer II Mazlan Hamid said the victim had been stranded on the island since the previous afternoon after his boat suffered a mechanical failure.
Firefighters managed to establish contact with the man at about 5.09am before preparing to begin the rescue operation.
However, the mission was briefly delayed due to rough sea conditions before resuming at around 5.30am.
The victim was successfully rescued approximately 45 minutes later and was reported to be safe following the operation.
