Five-Day SAR Operation Ends With Discovery Of Missing Welder’s Body

Date:

A welder who was feared drowned after the boat he was travelling in capsized at Sungai Galas, Kampung Batu 6, was found dead today after a five-day search operation.

Gua Musang District Police Chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said the body of Mohd Ilham Che Mat Satar, 27, was discovered at about 1pm, around three kilometres from the location where he was believed to have fallen into the river.

He said the Gua Musang District Police Headquarters Control Centre received information from members of the public regarding the incident at about 1.30pm last Monday, prompting the search and rescue (SAR) operation.

“Throughout the five-day operation, searches were carried out along the river using various assets, including rescue boats, four-wheel-drive vehicles, the K9 Unit and the Water Rescue Team from the Fire and Rescue Department.

“The operation faced several challenges, including strong river currents, unpredictable weather conditions and difficult terrain that affected the search efforts,” he said.

Sik Choon Foo said the victim’s body was later handed over to the authorities for further action before the SAR operation was concluded today.

Previously, it was reported that the welder was feared drowned after the boat he was travelling in was found overturned in Sungai Galas near Kampung Batu 6 last Monday.

The victim was believed to have gone missing while fishing with a net before the overturned boat was discovered in the river.
