Five houses were completely destroyed while another suffered minor damage after a fire broke out at Kampung Talantang, Jalan Damai, early Friday morning.
The incident, which occurred at about 2.19am, also resulted in four motorcycles being completely destroyed in the blaze.
Kota Marudu Fire and Rescue Station chief Debli Mamoi said his team received an emergency call through the NG999 line before firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
He said the fire engines arrived at the location at around 2.43am, covering a distance of about 15 kilometres from the station.
“Five houses were found to have suffered damage between 90 and 100 per cent, while another house sustained minor damage of about five per cent.
“Four motorcycles were also completely destroyed in the incident,” he said in a statement.
Firefighting efforts were carried out using two water lines measuring 400 feet with three water jets supplied from the fire engine and an open water source from a nearby drain.
The fire was brought under control at about 3.17am before the operation ended completely at 5.33am.
No casualties or injuries were reported, while the cause of the fire and estimated losses are still under investigation.
The operation involved 12 firefighters from Kota Marudu Fire and Rescue Station, with assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Sabah Electricity.
