Form Six Students To Receive Allowance Under 2027 Budget, Anwar Announces

Date:

Form Six students are set to receive a government allowance, with an allocation to be included in the 2027 Budget, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the decision was made after he engaged in a dialogue with pre-university students, who raised concerns over the lack of financial assistance for those pursuing Form Six studies.

He noted that allowances are currently provided to pupils from Year One through Form Five, while university students also receive various forms of financial support.

However, Form Six students have not previously been included in the allowance scheme.

“From Year One to Form Five, there is an allowance. University students have allowances too. But Form Six, which is pre-university, does not.

“So I have announced that in our Budget in October, I will approve the allocation and allowance for Form Six students,” he said during the Temu Anwar session at IPG Kampus Tuanku Bainun here today.

The Prime Minister said the move was intended to address concerns raised directly by students and provide greater financial support during their pre-university studies.

However, he stressed that the exact amount of the allowance had not yet been decided.

Anwar said the final figure would depend on the government’s financial capacity and would be determined as part of the Budget process.

The announcement is expected to be closely watched by Form Six students and their families, particularly those facing rising education and daily living costs.
