Four men were killed after the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and crashed into a five-tonne lorry parked on the road shoulder near Taman Jaya Diri along Jalan Sepanggar, Kota Kinabalu, early Sunday morning.
The crash occurred at around 2.30am, with all four victims pronounced dead at the scene.
Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Department acting station chief Mohd Hannis Moktar said the department received an emergency call at 2.37am.
Six firefighters were dispatched to the scene, located about 20 kilometres from the Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station.
“Upon arrival, we found that the accident involved a Perodua Viva which had skidded before crashing into a five-tonne lorry parked on the road shoulder.
“Four victims were trapped inside the Perodua Viva, and firefighters immediately worked to free them using specialised equipment,” he said in a statement.
All four victims were successfully extricated from the vehicle.
Medical personnel subsequently confirmed that all four men had died at the scene. Their bodies were handed over to police for further action.
Mohd Hannis said the operation ended at 3.55am after firefighters ensured there were no further hazards at the scene.
