Police are searching for four men believed to be involved in an attempted robbery at a goldsmith shop along Jalan Tengku Kelana, Klang, on Thursday morning.
South Klang district deputy police chief Superintendent Kamalariffin Aman Shah said the incident occurred at around 10.30am.
He said the South Klang District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division had opened an investigation under Section 394 of the Penal Code for causing injury during an attempted gang robbery.
“The case is also being investigated under Section 4 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for displaying a firearm during an attempted robbery,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
The case came to light after a video of the incident went viral on social media. The footage showed two helmeted men attempting to smash a glass display cabinet containing jewellery, reportedly using hammers.
Two other men were seen waiting outside the premises on motorcycles, apparently acting as accomplices during the attempted robbery.
However, the four suspects soon fled the scene before successfully taking the jewellery.
Kamalariffin urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist police with the investigation.
Members of the public can contact investigating officer Inspector Mohamad Sulaimi Alawi @ Shaari at 014-5719405, the South Klang district police operations room at 03-33762222, or any nearby police station.
