Haze affecting air quality has prompted schools in Kuching, Padawan, Serian and Samarahan to close from today until tomorrow (August 21), with lessons shifted to home-based teaching and learning (PdPR).
The Sarawak Education Department said the emergency measure took effect today as a precaution to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of students, teachers and school staff from exposure to unhealthy air quality.

In a notice issued today, the department said schools affected by the closure must continue lessons through PdPR to ensure students’ learning progress is not disrupted.
The move comes as haze conditions continue to affect several areas in Sarawak, raising concerns over prolonged exposure to unhealthy air.
The Sarawak Education Department said updates on the duration of the school closures and when schools will reopen will be announced through its official channels and those of the respective district education offices.
