The Sarawak Government has approved RM100,000 in financial assistance for each family of the personnel killed in last Tuesday’s helicopter crash near Long Lellang.
Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the assistance would also cover the education costs of the victims’ children who are still in school.
The education expenses will be fully funded through the Sarawak Foundation, he said.
Abang Johari said the assistance was a gesture of appreciation and concern from the state government for the service and sacrifice of the personnel, who were carrying out their duties to provide medical services to communities in remote areas.
“The Sarawak Government extends its condolences and deepest sympathy to all the family members and next of kin of the victims over the loss of their loved ones,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
The helicopter was carrying five people when it crashed near Long Lellang last Tuesday. All five victims were subsequently confirmed dead.
Abang Johari also prayed that the victims’ families would be given strength and resilience as they cope with the devastating loss.
