A 31-year-old high-powered motorcycle rider died after losing control of his bike and crashing into a trailer and a car while travelling in a convoy in Kampung Stong, along Jalan Gua Musang-Dabong, on Saturday.
The victim was reportedly riding with a group of friends from Temerloh, Pahang, heading towards Betong, Thailand, when the fatal accident occurred at about 1.30pm.
Kuala Krai district police chief Superintendent Mazlan Mamat said the victim suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
He said the crash involved three vehicles — a trailer carrying two tractors, the motorcycle ridden by the victim and a car.
“Initial investigations found that the victim was believed to have been travelling in a convoy with his friends from Temerloh, Pahang, towards Betong, Thailand.
“The trailer was travelling from Pasir Puteh towards Gua Musang, while the car was driven by a 35-year-old Indonesian man from Kedah heading towards Kuala Lumpur,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
Mazlan said the victim was believed to have lost control of his motorcycle while negotiating a bend, causing him to veer into the opposite lane.
The motorcycle then collided with the front right section of the trailer, throwing the victim onto the roadside.
He said the motorcycle continued moving into the opposite lane before crashing into the car travelling in the opposite direction.
The victim’s remains were later taken to the Forensic Unit at Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital, Kuala Krai, for a post-mortem examination.
Mazlan said the drivers of both the trailer and car escaped injury in the incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, with police continuing detailed investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Mazlan also urged motorcyclists to exercise greater caution, particularly when travelling in convoys, and to comply with all road regulations to reduce the risk of accidents.
