Housewife Killed In Three-Vehicle Crash After Lorry Slams Into Car

Date:

A 58-year-old housewife was killed after the car she was driving became involved in a devastating three-vehicle collision at Kilometre 50, near the Kampung Batu 29 junction, on Monday afternoon.

The victim, identified as Rusmawati Ismail, was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Hospital Setiu after suffering severe chest injuries in the crash.

Setiu District Police Chief Superintendent Zahril Asri Mohd Zain said the accident occurred at around 3.50pm and involved a Perodua Axia, a Proton Iswara, and a lorry.

Preliminary investigations found that the lorry, driven by a 52-year-old man travelling from Kota Bharu, is believed to have lost control before crashing into the rear of Rusmawati’s Perodua Axia.

The force of the impact pushed the victim’s vehicle into the opposite lane, where it collided head-on with a Proton Iswara driven by a 58-year-old man travelling from Kuala Terengganu.

While Rusmawati succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, the Proton Iswara driver sustained injuries to his hip and is receiving medical treatment.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a penalty of five to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine ranging from RM20,000 to RM50,000, and disqualification from holding a driving licence for at least five years upon conviction.

Authorities have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Thaufiq, at 011-26069043 to assist with the investigation.
