Husband And Wife Killed After Motorcycle Hits Tyre Debris On PLUS Highway

Date:

A husband and wife died after the motorcycle they were travelling on lost control and crashed after hitting a piece of tyre debris on the North-South Expressway early Friday morning.

The incident occurred at about 5am at KM342.9 of the expressway, in the northbound lane.

Tapah district police chief Superintendent Abdul Malik Hasim said the motorcycle fell onto the left lane before being dragged for about 10 metres by a lorry travelling in the same direction.

He said the woman, who was riding as a pillion passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her husband, who suffered serious abdominal injuries, was rushed to Tapah Hospital but was later pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the emergency unit.

“Based on initial information, the lorry driver was unable to avoid the motorcycle because of the short distance between the vehicles,” Abdul Malik said in a statement on Friday.

Preliminary investigations found that the couple had been travelling from Gombak towards Penang when the crash occurred.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Police have urged anyone with information about the accident to contact the Tapah District Control Centre at 05-401 1222 or Traffic Investigation Officer Inspector Muhammad Najmuddin Zulkarnaian at 017-325 6140.

The incident also highlights the dangers posed by debris on high-speed roads, where motorists may have only seconds to react to unexpected obstacles.
