“I Want the Truth for My Daughter” – Mother Pushes to Be Recognized in Zara Qairina Inquest

Date:

The Coroner’s Court in Kota Kinabalu will hear an application by the legal team representing the family of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, seeking to declare her mother, Noraidah Lamat, as an interested party in the inquest scheduled to begin on September 3.

The legal team, led by Hamid Ismail, filed the application on August 19, requesting that Noraidah be formally recognized as an interested party in the inquest into her daughter’s death.

Through this application, Noraidah is seeking the right to actively participate in the proceedings — including cross-examining witnesses, reviewing documents, proposing and presenting additional witnesses, as well as submitting supporting documents to assist the coroner.

The lawyers also requested access to all relevant documents from the Attorney General’s Chambers prior to the start of the inquest.

This comes amid widespread public attention on Zara’s case, which has been linked to elements of bullying, neglect, and possible sexual harassment, as highlighted in earlier statements by authorities. The inquest is expected to shed light on unanswered questions surrounding her death and to determine whether any negligence or wrongdoing was involved.
