A pregnant woman has turned to social media for advice after growing increasingly uncomfortable with her husband’s continued closeness with his ex-girlfriend.
In a lengthy post, the woman, who is expecting the couple’s first child, said she had struggled to accept her husband’s decision to remain friends with his former partner throughout their nine-year relationship.
She initially tried not to let it bother her but became uneasy after coming across messages between the two discussing scenes from a movie that reminded them of their time together.
The woman said the discovery hurt because the same movie held special memories for her and her husband, with him previously telling her that watching it would make him think of her.
When she confronted him, her husband reportedly said they were simply reminiscing about the past and accused her of overthinking the situation. She eventually accepted his explanation, but her concerns returned when she caught him greeting his ex using pet names.
Although she asked him not to do it again, he reportedly dismissed her concerns, saying it was simply his way of saying hello and that there was nothing wrong with it.
According to the woman, he only stopped after his ex entered a new relationship and told him that using such terms was inappropriate.
She said this left her deeply hurt as it made her feel that her husband was unwilling to change his behaviour for her, but was willing to do so when his ex set the boundary.
Her concerns grew further when the ex allegedly asked her husband to accompany her to a baby exposition as part of her “research”, despite having a partner of her own.
The woman said the situation became even more painful when she and her husband encountered the ex at the event.
According to her, her husband immediately went over to accompany his ex when he saw her heading towards another area, leaving his pregnant wife standing alone.
The woman said she could not help but feel that her husband’s attention automatically shifted to his ex whenever she was around, despite her being his wife and the mother of his child.
She stressed that she had never asked her husband to completely cut contact with his former girlfriend, but questioned why he could not give her the same level of love and attention.
Towards the end of her post, the woman questioned whether she was being overly sensitive or petty about her husband’s actions.
She said she did not want their marriage to continue being affected by his ex, but also did not want to spend the rest of her life pretending that the situation did not bother her.
