The Immigration Department is investigating a vehicle bearing its official logo after images of the vehicle, reportedly driven by a foreign national, went viral on social media.
Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said preliminary checks found that the vehicle was neither owned nor registered as an official asset of the department.
He said the department viewed the unauthorised use of its logo seriously as it could create confusion and lead members of the public to believe that the vehicle was officially linked to Immigration.
“The Immigration Department takes the use of its logo on the vehicle seriously as it could cause confusion and create a wrong perception among members of the public,” he said in a statement today.
Zakaria said an investigation was now underway to identify the individual involved and determine the purpose behind the use of the department’s logo on the vehicle.
The case has drawn attention after the vehicle was spotted and its images circulated widely online, prompting questions over whether it was an official Immigration vehicle.
He added that appropriate action would be taken under the relevant laws if the investigation found that any offence or violation had been committed.
The department also stressed the importance of ensuring its official identity and insignia are not misused, particularly in a manner that could mislead the public.
