Police have detected a possible “inside job” element in the investigation into a gang robbery involving losses of RM2.91 million at a luxury condominium in Jalan Ampang on Sept 7.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said preliminary investigations had found a connection between the robbery and the victim himself, although he declined to disclose further details.
“Yes, there is (an inside person). What I can say is that this case is linked to the victim himself.
“How they are connected will be explained later. Give us time to complete the investigation first,” he said.
Fadil said police had identified suspects believed to be involved but had yet to make any arrests.
He declined to reveal how many suspects had been identified, saying the investigation was still being conducted aggressively.
“We are still carrying out investigations and they are being conducted aggressively.
“So far, there have been no arrests. Give us a little time,” he said.
Police have recorded statements from the victim and occupants of the residence, as well as staff and security guards, as part of the investigation.
Fadil added that police were also in contact with the Chinese Embassy and relevant parties following the disappearance of the victim’s passport.
However, he declined to say whether the suspects were still in the country, describing the matter as sensitive at this stage of the investigation.
The robbery took place between about 2pm and 3pm on Sept 7, when a group of masked and gloved men armed with knives allegedly broke into a residential unit at Pavilion Embassy, Jalan Ampang.
The group reportedly fled with cash, jewellery and luxury watches, with total losses estimated at RM2.91 million.
They also damaged the victim’s mobile phone and took the passport belonging to the 28-year-old Chinese national.
Police have so far recorded statements from 12 witnesses in connection with the case, which is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code.
