Johor Polls: Police Receive Seven Reports, Three Investigations Opened Since Nomination Day

Date:

Johor police have received seven reports related to the 16th Johor State Election (PRN) since nomination day on Saturday, with three investigation papers opened over various alleged offences.

Johor Police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said one investigation is being conducted under Section 435 of the Penal Code for alleged mischief by fire or explosive substance, while another is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief causing damage.

A third investigation paper has been opened under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, involving allegations of acts or attempts with seditious tendencies, as well as the improper use of network facilities or services.

Despite the reported cases, Ab Rahaman said the overall security situation throughout the state election process remains peaceful and under control, with no incidents recorded that have threatened public order.

He revealed that police have received 420 permit applications for election campaign activities, of which 414 have been approved to allow campaign events to proceed in accordance with existing laws and regulations.

During the same period, a total of 191 political events were held and monitored by Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel to ensure organisers complied with permit conditions and that all activities were conducted in a safe and orderly manner.

Ab Rahaman added that police, together with relevant agencies, are intensifying surveillance on social media platforms to detect the spread of fake news, false information and content containing elements of incitement or provocation that could disrupt public order.

Authorities have reminded all political parties, candidates and members of the public to comply with election laws and campaign regulations to ensure the Johor state election continues to be conducted peacefully.
