Kitchen Fire at Mid Valley Restaurant Quickly Contained, No Injuries

Date:

A fire broke out in the kitchen of a restaurant at Mid Valley Megamall last night but was quickly brought under control by the mall’s automatic sprinkler system and restaurant staff.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre received a distress call via the 999 hotline at about 8.49pm, reporting a fire at a ground-floor restaurant in the shopping complex.

Operations commander Azizan Albar said fire crews from the Pantai and Jalan Hang Tuah stations were immediately dispatched, involving 25 personnel of various ranks.

“They were supported by one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, a water tanker and a Rapid Intervention Motorcycle (RIM),” he said.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at 8.56pm, but the blaze had already been extinguished.

Azizan said the fire was put out by the automatic sprinkler system and restaurant workers using dry powder fire extinguishers.

Initial findings indicate the fire originated in the kitchen and is believed to have started during cooking activities.

No injuries were reported.

The operation concluded at 10.23pm, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident.

Meanwhile, a Threads user claimed she had just placed a food order but was forced to cancel it after being instructed to evacuate. Another user, @ainaas.atelier, said smoke spread through parts of the mall, reaching as far as the car park.
