Kuching School Axe Attack Suspect No Longer An Active Student

Date:

The 16-year-old boy suspected of attacking a female teacher with an axe at Tunku Putra-HELP International School (TPH) in Kuching on Wednesday is no longer an active student at the institution.

In a statement, TPH said the teenager was currently in police custody following the incident, which sparked concern among the school community and the public.

“The student suspected of being involved in the incident is now in police custody and is no longer an active TPH student,” the school said.

The case remains under police investigation, with the school pledging its full cooperation with the authorities.

The female teacher was taken to hospital by ambulance shortly after the incident. She is reported to be in stable condition, with no critical injuries, and is recovering.

TPH praised the teacher for her courage and composure during the incident, expressing hope for her full recovery.

Following the attack, the school reviewed its existing safety procedures and strengthened security measures in consultation with the authorities.

Three auxiliary police officers will be stationed on the school premises with immediate effect, while appropriate security checks will be conducted on individuals entering the campus.

The school is also reviewing more comprehensive long-term security measures.

Meanwhile, the school management will hold an assembly with students to explain what happened, reassure them about their safety and address any concerns they may have.

TPH confirmed that classes would resume as usual on Thursday after receiving approval from the relevant authorities.

Police earlier said they received an emergency call at 8.03am on Wednesday concerning a 16-year-old boy who allegedly brought firecrackers and injured a female teacher with an axe at a private school in Kuching.
