Labourer Jailed Four Years After Admitting Kidnapping And Car Theft In Tendong

Date:

A labourer was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment and fined RM6,000 by the Sessions Court here today after pleading guilty to kidnapping a man and stealing a car in Tendong last month.

The accused, Syamsul Azroy Che Anuar, 32, entered his plea after the charges were read before Judge Zulkpli Abdullah. Court proceedings involving serious criminal offences often highlight the judiciary’s firm stance against violent and property-related crimes, particularly those involving multiple offenders acting in concert.

On the first charge, he was accused alongside three others still at large of abducting Mohd. Shahrul Nizam Mohd. Asri, 35, with the intention of secretly and unlawfully confining him at a house in Tendong at about 3.30pm on June 6. Such offences under Malaysian law are treated seriously due to their impact on personal safety and public security.

The charge was framed under Section 365 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34. Kidnapping cases of this nature often involve coordinated planning, making enforcement efforts more complex when multiple suspects remain at large.

For the second charge, Syamsul Azroy and the same group were accused of stealing a Volkswagen Jetta belonging to Mohd. Taufik Mohd. Asri, 25, at the same time, date and location. The case was prosecuted under Section 379(1) of the Penal Code read with Section 34.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Aiysha Na’ilah Harizan, while the accused was unrepresented.

The court ordered him to serve four years’ imprisonment from the date of his arrest on June 16 and imposed a RM3,000 fine, with an additional three months’ jail in default of payment. For the second charge, he was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment and fined RM3,000, also with an additional three-month jail term if the fine is not paid.

Both sentences will run concurrently from the date of arrest. The case underscores ongoing enforcement efforts against serious criminal offences involving abduction and vehicle theft, which continue to draw strong legal consequences in Malaysia.
