A 64-year-old lorry driver is believed to have suffered a heart attack while driving before his vehicle was involved in a crash along the Kajang-Semenyih Bypass on Tuesday afternoon.
Kajang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the incident occurred at about 3.20pm and involved a lorry driven by the victim and a Honda car driven by a 46-year-old local woman.
Preliminary investigations found that the victim was travelling from Sungai Buloh towards Semenyih when he is believed to have suffered a heart attack upon reaching the scene.
As a result, the lorry reportedly rolled backwards and collided with the Honda that was travelling behind it. Fortunately, no other serious injuries were reported in the incident.
A post-mortem conducted at Hospital Serdang on Wednesday confirmed that the victim died due to a blocked coronary artery, indicating that the crash was triggered by a sudden medical emergency rather than reckless driving.
Police are investigating the road accident under Regulation 17 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959, while the death has been classified as a sudden death.
Members of the public with information related to the incident are urged to contact the nearest police station or the investigating officer from the Kajang District Police Headquarters Traffic Division, Inspector Mohd Raziman Rasid, at 019-456 5502 to assist with the investigation.
