A lorry driver was killed while his seven-month pregnant wife sustained injuries after two heavy vehicles collided near Kampung Tebuk Marso in Selangor early Friday morning.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received an emergency call at 2.49am.
A team of six firefighters from the Sungai Besar Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene.
Initial reports indicated that the crash involved a Hino lorry carrying 36 tonnes of steel and a Volvo container lorry.
The 26-year-old female passenger in the Volvo lorry, who is seven months pregnant, suffered minor injuries and was rescued by members of the public before firefighters arrived.
Her husband, the 21-year-old driver of the Volvo lorry, was trapped in the driver’s seat and found unconscious.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Hino lorry escaped unharmed.
Firefighters carried out extrication work and successfully freed the trapped victim at 4.15am. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene by Ministry of Health personnel.
His wife was taken to hospital for further treatment.
