The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a chief executive officer of a federal statutory body over allegations of receiving bribes linked to a squash court construction project.
According to sources, the suspect was detained at around 7.20pm on Monday at a shopping complex in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, shortly after allegedly receiving RM100,000 from a construction contractor.
Investigators believe the man, who is in his 40s, had allegedly requested RM1 million in bribes in exchange for approving payment claims related to the project. It is further alleged that he had already received RM500,000 prior to Aidilfitri as an advance payment.
Authorities said the suspect is expected to be brought before the Magistrate’s Court in Putrajaya on Tuesday for a remand application as investigations continue.
The case is being investigated under provisions related to corruption offences, with MACC continuing to gather evidence and trace the full extent of the alleged payments.
