The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) has temporarily suspended the ambulance crew involved in a collision at a Setapak intersection, pending the outcome of the police investigation.
MRC Secretary-General Datuk Danial Iskandar Abdul Rahman said eight people were injured in the incident, including a 9-year-old girl with minor injuries and a 40-year-old motorcyclist who suffered a fractured right thigh and remains hospitalised. The others have returned home after treatment at Kuala Lumpur General Hospital.
“As part of internal protocol, the ambulance crew involved have been temporarily relieved from operational duties pending the outcome of the investigation,” Datuk Danial said.
He added that MRC representatives have reached out to the victims and their families to offer support and assistance.
The ambulance was responding to an emergency call from the Gombak Setia People’s Housing Project when the accident occurred at 8.10am at a traffic light-controlled junction. It collided with another vehicle and made contact with other road users following the initial impact.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Division chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
