Man Allegedly Kills Wife With Bag Strap After Her Frequent Clubbing

Date:

A man is suspected of killing his wife by strangling her with a bag strap at a rented house in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta.

According to Tribunnews, the victim — a 49-year-old woman identified only as S — was found dead in the living room by her child.

“At the scene, police discovered a strap believed to have been used by the suspect to end the victim’s life,” said Kebon Jeruk Police Criminal Investigation Unit chief AKP Ganda Jaya Sibarani.

Initial investigations suggest jealousy may have been a factor in the couple’s marriage, and police have not ruled out infidelity as a possible motive. “So far, our investigation indicates allegations of the victim’s involvement in an affair. However, we are still conducting further checks and cross-examining the information,” he added.

A neighbour, Sumarni, 51, told reporters the suspect — known as W — had previously spoken to her about his marital problems. “He once said he had been thinking about his wife a lot lately. I think he was jealous of her change in behaviour, going out frequently to entertainment venues, karaoke,” she said.

However, Sumarni noted that residents had never heard any arguments between the couple before the tragedy. She said the pair had been renting the house for about a year, adding that the suspect was known to have a rather harsh personality.

The killing has shocked the local community, who did not expect the couple’s marriage to end in violence. Police are continuing their investigation to complete the case file.
