Man Arrested After Allegedly Committing Indecent Act, Stealing RM390 From Library Assistant

Date:

Police have arrested a 25-year-old man suspected of committing an indecent act and stealing cash belonging to a library assistant at the Padang Siding Rural Library in Arau last Wednesday.

Arau District Police Chief Superintendent Ahmad Mohsin Md Rodi said the suspect was arrested at noon today and is expected to be brought before the Kangar Magistrates’ Court tomorrow for a remand application.

According to Ahmad Mohsin, the suspect allegedly admitted during preliminary questioning to committing the indecent act against the 37-year-old woman and stealing her money.

Following the arrest, police seized a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle, a key and a helmet believed to have been used by the suspect during the incident.

A urine screening conducted on the man also returned positive for methamphetamine, police said.

Further checks revealed that the suspect has seven previous records involving offences including drug abuse, theft, trespassing and rape under Section 376 of the Penal Code.

Police are currently investigating the case under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building and Section 509 for insulting the modesty of a person.

The incident previously attracted attention after reports emerged that the library assistant had faced a frightening encounter when a man approached the counter and allegedly behaved indecently in front of her.

Panicked by the situation, the woman reportedly ran out of the library to seek help.

Police said the suspect allegedly took advantage of her absence to steal RM390 in cash belonging to her before fleeing the scene.
