A 23-year-old man has been arrested after a woman alleged that she was secretly filmed while using the toilet at a convenience store in Bandar Inderapura, Jerantut, on Saturday.
Jerantut district police chief Superintendent Nor Azman Yusof said the incident happened at about 10.30am and involved a 26-year-old woman who was a customer at the store.
He said the woman claimed she noticed what appeared to be someone in the adjacent toilet using a mobile phone to record her from above the toilet partition.
“The victim immediately checked the adjacent toilet with the help of her family members.
“Her husband then contacted the Jerantut district police headquarters operations room to seek assistance,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
Nor Azman said members of the Jerantut police station’s Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) were dispatched to the premises and arrested the 23-year-old suspect.
Police also seized an iPhone 16 Plus believed to have been used in the alleged offence.
“The suspect was remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code for three days until Sept 22 to facilitate investigations under Sections 509 and 377D of the Penal Code.
“The seized item will be sent to the Royal Malaysia Police Forensics Department for analysis,” he said.
Nor Azman urged the public not to speculate on the case on social media, warning that such speculation could interfere with the investigation.
The incident came to light after the woman posted about it on Threads, alleging that she had been filmed from above the toilet by a worker at the premises while using the toilet during a shopping trip with her family.
