A man has sparked outrage after allegedly smoking inside a mosque’s prayer hall, putting out his cigarette on a table used by the imam and removing a label from the mosque’s donation box.
The incident, which was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV), reportedly took place at a mosque in Kok Lanas, Kelantan.
The footage also showed the man removing a label from the mosque’s donation box after allegedly smoking and extinguishing his cigarette inside the prayer hall.
“Latest. A suspicious-looking man entered Ayesha Mosque in Kok Lanas, smoked inside the prayer hall, extinguished his cigarette on the table where the imam delivers sermons, and then proceeded to remove the label from the mosque’s donation box,” read the social media post.
The footage prompted questions from netizens, who were baffled by the man’s apparent disregard for the sanctity of the place of worship.
One user, @Hafeez, urged others not to dismiss the man’s behaviour by claiming he was mentally unwell, pointing out that he appeared well-dressed and could afford to buy cigarettes.
“Fortunately, there are plenty of CCTV cameras. What if there weren’t any?” another user questioned.
Meanwhile, @Sabree called on the authorities to take swift action, saying the man’s face was clearly visible in the footage.
