A man attempting to escape a police check in Jeram Perdah, Kelantan, fled into nearby bushes after losing control of his motorcycle on a muddy road, abandoning the vehicle and two bags containing 11kg of suspected cannabis worth RM34,100.
The incident occurred at about 8.30pm on Wednesday along Jalan Kasban, when a Strike Force team from Company A, 7th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF), was conducting a motorcycle patrol.
Southeast Brigade Commander Datuk Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the officers spotted a man riding a Honda Wave motorcycle behaving suspiciously before he turned into Lorong Sapi.
The team followed him, identified themselves as senior police officers and ordered him to stop for an inspection.
However, the rider accelerated in an attempt to escape before his motorcycle skidded and crashed on the muddy road.
He then ran into a nearby bushy area and managed to evade capture despite a search by the officers.
Ahmad Radzi said further checks near the abandoned motorcycle uncovered two bags containing 100 compressed blocks of suspected cannabis.
A pink and grey backpack contained 40 greenish compressed blocks weighing 4.4kg, while a green and white luggage bag held another 60 blocks weighing 6.6kg.
The total haul was estimated to weigh 11kg and was valued at RM34,100. Police also seized the Honda Wave motorcycle, worth RM1,000, and a vehicle key, bringing the total estimated value of the seizure to RM35,100.
Checks on the motorcycle’s engine and chassis numbers found no records, leading police to believe the vehicle originated from Thailand.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The seized items have been handed over to the Pasir Mas district police headquarters’ Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division for further action.
