The death of a gold prospector who was found drowned in Sungai Kampung Pulai, Padang Maling, is believed to have been caused by a seizure attack while he was working in the river.
Gua Musang District Police Chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said the victim, 35-year-old Mohamad Tarmizi Darwis, was discovered unconscious by members of the public at about 11pm on Wednesday. Police later received a report regarding the incident at 12.28am.
According to the findings of a post-mortem examination, the victim is believed to have suffered a lack of oxygen after experiencing a seizure while panning for gold in the river.
Police said one of the key indicators was evidence that the victim had bitten his tongue, a common sign associated with seizure episodes. Authorities also found no suspicious injuries or indications of foul play during their investigation.
Information provided by family members further confirmed that Mohamad Tarmizi had a history of epilepsy and had experienced seizures on multiple occasions in the past.
His body was subsequently taken to Hospital Gua Musang for further procedures, while police classified the case as having no criminal elements.
The tragedy gained additional attention after it emerged that the victim’s eldest daughter had reportedly dreamt about her father drowning while panning for gold just one night before the incident occurred.
His wife, Nur Shafiqa Hani Mohd Zuki, 30, revealed that their 15-year-old daughter, Nur Annisa Syuhada, had shared the disturbing dream with the family before the heartbreaking incident became a reality.
The incident has left family members devastated, with many describing the sequence of events as both tragic and deeply unsettling.
