Man Killed In Hit-And-Run While Removing Warning Bucket On Cheras-Kajang Highway

Date:

A 46-year-old man was killed after being struck by a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) while removing a bucket he had placed as a warning for motorists following a tyre puncture along the Cheras-Kajang Highway on Monday night.

The fatal incident occurred at around 10pm at Kilometre 13.0 of the highway. The victim suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kajang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said preliminary investigations found that the victim had stopped his silver Toyota Innova on the left shoulder of the highway after one of its tyres burst. He was travelling with five passengers at the time.

After successfully replacing the damaged tyre, the victim walked to the rear of the vehicle to retrieve a bucket that had been placed on the road as a warning to approaching motorists. Road safety measures such as temporary warning markers are commonly used during emergency breakdowns to alert other drivers and reduce the risk of collisions.

“While the victim was removing the bucket, a red Toyota Innova travelling from behind struck him before fleeing the scene without stopping,” Naazron said in a statement on Tuesday.

The victim, a Malaysian, was confirmed dead at the scene due to serious injuries sustained in the collision.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Authorities have appealed to anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Nur Faezah Mohd Zakria, at 012-3268496 to assist with the investigation.
