Man Rams Police Car While Trying To Smuggle 850kg Of Subsidised Cooking Oil

Date:

A 21-year-old man was arrested during an enforcement operation against the misappropriation and smuggling of subsidised controlled goods in Tok Bali on Tuesday.

Kelantan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) director Azman Ismail said the suspect became aggressive and tried to escape, even ramming his car into an enforcement vehicle before being detained.

During the 5.45pm operation, authorities intercepted a Proton Waja driven by the suspect and found 850 kilograms of subsidised cooking oil in packets, worth over RM7,000.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was attempting to smuggle the cooking oil for sale across the border,” Azman told reporters on Wednesday.

He added that the suspect failed to present any valid documentation and is believed to be involved in the smuggling of subsidised goods.

The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for further action.

The joint operation, known as Operation Bersepadu Membanteras Penyelewengan dan Penyeludupan Barang Kawalan Bersubsidi, was conducted in collaboration with the Marine Police Region Three (PPM W3) Pengkalan Kubor and the Pasir Puteh District Police Headquarters (IPD).
