Man Wanted After Posing As Inspector To Steal Fast-Food Worker’s Phone

Date:

Police are tracking down a local man who allegedly tricked a fast-food restaurant employee into handing over a mobile phone before fleeing the scene, an incident that has since gone viral on social media.

Shah Alam district police chief Ramsay Embol said authorities received a report from a fast-food outlet located inside a shopping mall in Setia Alam following the incident on Sunday.

He said CCTV footage showed the suspect entering the premises and asking the victim several questions, allegedly claiming he needed to verify staff information for a branch-related check.

The suspect then allegedly asked to borrow the victim’s mobile phone to take notes. The employee complied, after which the suspect reportedly walked away with the device and disappeared from the scene.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries a jail term of between one and 10 years, whipping, and a fine upon conviction.

Police are urging members of the public with information on the suspect to contact investigators at 011-16621816 or the Shah Alam district police headquarters hotline at 03-5520 2222.

Authorities said efforts are ongoing to identify and locate the suspect following the circulation of the CCTV footage online, which has drawn widespread attention.
