Married Mother Of Two Breaks Down In Court After Admitting Attempted Illicit Relationship With Married Man

Date:

A married woman broke down in tears and pleaded for leniency after admitting to a charge of attempting to engage in illicit sexual relations with a married man at the Syariah High Court in Ayer Keroh on Thursday.

The accused, 35-year-old Siti Iqbar Mazlan, became emotional during proceedings before Judge Abu Bakar Daud and also took the opportunity to publicly apologise to the man’s wife, Puteri Norfatimah Ishak, 25.

In her appeal to the court, Siti expressed remorse over her actions and stated that she was no longer in contact with the man involved, Hairul Mokhsin Zaini.

“I would like to apologise to Puteri Norfatimah for what I have done. I truly regret my actions and I am no longer in contact with Hairul Mokhsin,” she told the court.

She also pleaded not to be sentenced to imprisonment, explaining that she still had a husband and was responsible for caring for her two children.

After considering the plea, the court imposed a fine of RM4,500, with an alternative sentence of eight months’ imprisonment if the fine is not paid.

In the same proceeding, 24-year-old Hairul Mokhsin Zaini also pleaded guilty to the same offence. He was fined RM5,000 or faces eight months in jail should he fail to settle the penalty.

According to the charge, both individuals were accused of attempting to engage in unlawful sexual relations despite not being legally married to each other under Islamic law.

The offence was allegedly committed at a house in Kampung Sungai Putat, Batu Berendam, at around 2am during a period between June 1 and June 30, 2025.

They were charged under Section 52 of the Syariah Offences Enactment (State of Melaka) 1991, which carries a maximum penalty of RM5,000, imprisonment of up to 36 months, or both upon conviction.

Cases involving offences under Syariah law continue to highlight the legal and social consequences faced by individuals found to have breached religious regulations governing personal conduct and family matters.
