Melaka Police Reaffirm Dress Code After Woman Turned Away Over Skirt

Date:

Police in Melaka have reminded the public to follow the official dress code when visiting police complaint counters, following an incident involving a woman turned away over her attire.

State police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the guidelines were based on a circular issued by the chief secretary to enhance customer service across government agencies.

He added that exceptions would always be made in emergencies or situations requiring immediate police response.

His statement came after reports that a woman was denied entry at the Jasin district police headquarters yesterday because her skirt was deemed inappropriate for government premises.

The incident happened around 5pm when two women arrived to lodge a report after a road accident.

“The officer at the entrance advised one of the women to return home and change into clothing that met the dress code, as neither of them had suffered injuries,” Dzulkhairi said.

Investigations showed that by 5.40pm, the woman returned with her mother, dressed more modestly, and was then allowed to enter the station and file her report.
