Jabatan Meteorologi Malaysia (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning covering 11 states, including Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, with severe weather expected to last until 7pm today.
MetMalaysia said the affected areas include Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, as well as parts of Sarawak and Sabah.
In its statement, the agency warned that heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds are expected in several districts including Langkawi, Kuala Muda, Kinta, Gua Musang, Besut, Cameron Highlands, Gombak, Petaling and Sepang.
It said the warning is issued when there are signs of rainfall exceeding 20 millimetres per hour, either occurring or expected to persist for more than one hour.
MetMalaysia added that such alerts are short-term warnings valid for not more than six hours per issuance.
The public has been advised to stay alert and monitor the latest weather updates through official MetMalaysia channels.
