MetMalaysia Issues Thunderstorm Warning For Several Areas In Peninsular Malaysia

Date:

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning following expectations of heavy rain affecting several parts of the Peninsular until 12 noon today.

In a statement, MetMalaysia said the weather system is expected to impact the entire state of Perlis as well as Penang.

It added that heavy rain is also forecast for several areas in Kedah, including Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Yan, Pendang and Kuala Muda.

The department explained that a heavy rain warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorm activity with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour and expected to persist for more than an hour.

It further clarified that such warnings are short-term alerts, valid for no more than six hours for each issuance, depending on evolving weather conditions.
