A mother and daughter were killed after the Perodua Myvi they were travelling in collided with a lorry in a crash along Jalan Temenggung Ahmad, Parit Unas, Muar, on Friday.
Muar district police chief ACP Raiz Mukhliz Abd Aziz said the accident occurred at about 10.30am.
He said the Myvi was driven by a 58-year-old local woman, while her 83-year-old mother was seated in the front passenger seat. The lorry was driven by a 53-year-old local man.
Initial investigations found that the Myvi, which was travelling in the opposite direction, is believed to have lost control before veering into the path of the oncoming lorry, which was heading from Muar town towards Parit Jawa.
The woman driving the Myvi was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering severe injuries.
Her mother later succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital (HPSF) in Muar.
Meanwhile, the lorry driver sustained injuries to his arms and legs and is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police have urged anyone with information related to the accident to contact the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at the Muar District Police Headquarters or the nearest police station to assist investigations.
Raiz also reminded road users to obey traffic regulations, drive responsibly and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before beginning any journey.
