A Malaysian man, 33, has shared how he called off his wedding plans after he and his former partner disagreed over how their marriage should be celebrated.
According to a post on Threads, the man said he had planned to settle down but preferred to have a simple wedding rather than spend heavily on the ceremony.
He claimed he currently owns a car worth RM150,000, a terrace house valued at RM800,000 and has RM30,000 in savings.
Despite being financially established, he said his plans to start a family fell apart after his former partner wanted a larger wedding celebration.
“Never thought I would cancel my wedding because of hantaran. I promised to provide a comfortable life after marriage, but I only wanted to have a simple ceremony,” he wrote.
He claimed his former partner believed a grand wedding was a dream for many women.
“Since that moment, I no longer felt like continuing,” he added.
Following the cancellation, the man said he is now comfortable with single life and has chosen to spend his money on his mother and annual overseas trips instead.
His post subsequently drew attention from other Threads users, with many discussing the importance of finding a partner who shares similar expectations about marriage, finances and wedding celebrations.
