A 30-year-old Rohingya woman was detained by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Kedah for allegedly driving a Proton Wira without a valid driving licence during an enforcement operation yesterday.
JPJ Kedah director Stien Van Lutam said the woman was stopped in the district during Op Pewa conducted by the department.
Initial inspection found that the woman was driving without a valid Competent Driving Licence (CDL), while the vehicle’s Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM) had expired and it did not have valid insurance coverage.
He said further checks also revealed that the vehicle owner had allowed the car to be driven by an individual without a valid licence and by a foreign national.
“Following the offence, action will be taken against both individuals under the relevant laws, while the Proton Wira has been seized to assist further investigations,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Stien added that JPJ Kedah will continue to intensify enforcement operations to ensure all drivers and vehicle owners comply with road regulations for the safety of all road users.
He stressed that the department would not compromise with anyone, including locals who allow foreign nationals to use their vehicles without meeting legal requirements.
