Patient Lured Into Freezer Then Sexually Assaulted by Lab Technician

Date:

A 53-year-old male medical laboratory technician in Taipei, identified as Ah-Hui (pseudonym), has been sentenced following a sexual misconduct incident involving a male patient, Da-Zhi (pseudonym), but will not serve prison time after reaching a settlement with the victim.

According to court documents, on October 25, 2024, Da-Zhi visited the Hematology-Oncology Department at the Tri-Service General Hospital for a blood test. Ah-Hui was responsible for performing the procedure. After the blood draw, Da-Zhi rested briefly in the corridor when Ah-Hui called him into the specimen freezer room.

Trusting Ah-Hui, Da-Zhi followed him, where Ah-Hui claimed he would provide a “relaxing massage.” Ah-Hui then removed Da-Zhi’s pants and touched his genitals. Da-Zhi immediately expressed pain and requested to return to the consultation room, at which point Ah-Hui stopped.

Ah-Hui later impersonated a doctor and contacted Da-Zhi’s daughter for her contact information. Following this, Da-Zhi reported the incident to the police.

The court noted that as a healthcare professional, Ah-Hui was expected to uphold ethical standards and protect patient trust. Instead, he exploited his position to violate Da-Zhi’s sexual autonomy, an act deemed highly improper.

However, considering Ah-Hui’s lack of prior criminal record, his admission of guilt, and the fact that he had reached a settlement with the victim and compensated for damages, the court sentenced him to five months in prison, suspended for three years. During this period, he must comply with probation conditions and complete two legal education courses.
