Police have detained five individuals, including a caretaker of a nursing home, following the death of a male resident in Tanjung Rambutan yesterday.
The 54-year-old victim was pronounced dead by medical personnel from the Tanjung Rambutan Health Clinic at about 2pm.
Perak Police Chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said initial investigations found several injury marks on the victim’s body, prompting police to conduct further investigations into the incident.
“Police are investigating to determine the actual cause of the incident and the role of each individual involved.
“A post-mortem examination will be carried out to identify the exact cause of death. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he said in a statement.
Mohd Alwi also urged the public not to speculate or spread unverified information regarding the case, as it could affect the ongoing police investigation.
Meanwhile, a local resident, Amar Mat Daud, 40, said there were no suspicious incidents or unusual noises from the care centre before the incident.
He said the premises had been operating as a care centre for about two years and no similar incidents had occurred during the period he lived nearby.
“My house is directly behind the centre. Even the day before the incident, I did not hear any loud noises or arguments,” he said when met at the scene.
Police are continuing investigations to uncover the circumstances surrounding the resident’s death.
