Police are currently searching for a man suspected of stealing donation money and a necklace placed on a prayer statue at a temple in Jalan Tanjong Tualang, Batu Gajah.
Perak Police Chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the Batu Gajah District Police Headquarters (IPD) received a report regarding the incident at about 2.52pm on Saturday.
He said initial investigations found that the suspect had allegedly taken money placed on a tray before fleeing with a necklace worn by a prayer statue at Kuil Dewi Sri Maha Kaliamman.
“Following the report, the Batu Gajah IPD Criminal Investigation Division has conducted investigations by recording statements from witnesses, obtaining closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and examining all relevant aspects to assist the investigation,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
Mohd Alwi said police are actively working to identify and apprehend the suspect involved in the case.
The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft.
He also advised the public not to make any speculation that could disrupt investigations or cause concern among the community.
