Police Hunt Suspects In Viral MRR2 Cable Theft Case

Date:

Police are tracking several individuals suspected of being involved in cable theft along the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) after footage of the incident went viral on social media.

Ampang Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Khairul Anuar Khalid said authorities became aware of the viral video at about 5pm yesterday, showing several men removing and loading cables from a manhole beside the highway.

He said investigations revealed that a police report had already been lodged a day before the video circulated online.

According to him, the complainant, a local man, had earlier stopped his vehicle at the roadside on June 4 at about 1.30pm and noticed a grey Honda Odyssey parked at the scene.

The witness claimed to have seen four unidentified men loading cut cables into the vehicle before leaving the location, and managed to record the incident prior to lodging a report.

Police said the case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code and Section 235 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
