Police Inspector Pleads Not Guilty To RM12,000 Bribery Charges

Date:

A 31-year-old police inspector has pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to two corruption charges involving the alleged solicitation and acceptance of RM12,000 in bribes while serving at the Jeli District Police Headquarters (IPD) last year.

Abdul Rahman Khairuddin entered his plea before Sessions Court Judge Dazuki Ali after the charges were read out on Tuesday.

Under the first charge, the inspector is accused of corruptly soliciting RM10,000 from Nur Fatma Atiqah Husin, 34, as an inducement not to charge her and Fatimah Deraman under Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

The alleged offence is said to have taken place at the Jeli District Police Headquarters at around 10am on 2 April 2025. He was charged under Section 16(a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, which carries penalties under Section 24(1) of the same Act.

The second charge alleges that Abdul Rahman accepted RM2,000 in cash from Nur Fatma Atiqah through Siti Nur Hanani Husin, 45, in exchange for not prosecuting the two women over the same alleged offence.

The payment was allegedly received at 2.30pm on the same day and at the same location. He was charged under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, which is also punishable under Section 24(1).

If convicted, the inspector faces up to 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine of no less than five times the value of the alleged bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

The prosecution was led by MACC Deputy Public Prosecutor Mariah Omar, assisted by prosecuting officer Rosmanazihah Othman, while the accused was represented by lawyer Ahmad Khir Khairuddin.

During the proceedings, the prosecution requested bail of RM10,000 along with conditions requiring the accused to surrender his passport and refrain from contacting prosecution witnesses.

The defence sought a lower bail amount, arguing that Abdul Rahman is a civil servant and the father of two young children.

The court granted bail of RM8,000 with one surety and imposed additional conditions requiring the accused to report to the MACC office in Kota Bharu once a month and not interfere with any witnesses.

The case has been fixed for 19 August for further mention and the submission of case documents.
