A Form Two student was allegedly assaulted by two of his peers after a football game at Taman Uda football field here, with a video of the incident going viral on social media since yesterday.
The two-minute clip shows one of the boys kicking the victim, causing him to fall, before another suspect is seen kicking him while he was on the ground.
Acting Kota Setar District Police Chief, Superintendent Hilmi Ahmad, said the matter came to police attention after the victim’s uncle informed the boy’s father about the viral video at around 10.30am on Saturday.
The 53-year-old complainant then lodged a police report for further action.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred on June 16 at about 5.30pm while the victim and the two suspects were playing football at Taman Uda field.
Police confirmed that the victim and both suspects are schoolmates who have known each other since Year One and live in the same residential area.
The complainant also stated that there had been no prior disputes between them before the incident.
However, the victim alleged that the assault was triggered after one of the suspects believed he had been disturbing his girlfriend, a claim the victim has denied.
Investigations found that one suspect kicked the victim in the stomach, causing him to fall, before kicking him again on the side of the body.
The second suspect allegedly pushed the victim with his leg, causing him to fall further.
Authorities said the victim did not initially inform his school or parents as he did not want to escalate the matter, and they only became aware after the video went viral online.
The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code. No internal or external injuries were reported.
