A traffic policeman was injured after being hit by a car while controlling traffic at the Kampung Kepulau traffic light intersection in Palekbang on Friday.
Tumpat district police chief ACP Mohd Khairi Shafie said the 22-year-old officer from the Tumpat Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPTD) was closing the road from Morak to Palekbang at about 1.25pm.
The road closure was carried out to facilitate the passage of Sultan Muhammad V’s entourage for Friday prayers and a Majlis Jamuan Rakyat held in conjunction with the Sultan’s 57th birthday.
Mohd Khairi said a Proton Saga driven by a 55-year-old woman from Morak allegedly failed to notice the policeman before hitting him.
“The policeman fell and suffered minor injuries,” he said in a statement.
The officer was taken to Tumpat Hospital for outpatient treatment, while the driver escaped injury.
Mohd Khairi said the case is being investigated under Section 79(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police are also continuing investigations, including efforts to obtain dashcam footage and other recordings that could help establish what happened.
He urged motorists to follow instructions from police officers conducting traffic control and remain alert to road conditions, particularly during special operations and traffic diversions, to prevent similar incidents.
